Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A state board says the city of Portland must follow an arbitrator’s ruling and rehire a police officer who shot an unarmed man in 2010. The Oregon Employment Relations Board rejected claims by the city that rehiring Ronald Frashour would violate public policy. KATU-TV reports Mayor Sam Adams says he’ll urge the city council to appeal the decision to the Oregon Court of Appeals. Mayor Sam Adams and Police Chief Mike Reese fired Frashour after concluding the unarmed man didn’t pose an immediate threat of death or physical injury.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says a suspected drunk driver crashed his car into a school bus in a rural area south of Hillsboro. Two children and a driver were on the school bus, but they were not hurt in yesterday’s crash. Twenty-seven-year-old Kyle Getsinger, of Hillsboro, was taken to a local hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Students at Oregon State University in Corvallis started their school year this week on an entirely smoke-free campus. KGW-TV reports that smoking had been prohibited inside buildings. Now, smokers must go outside the campus boundaries if they want to light up. A group of students started pushing for the ban about five years ago.

AZALEA, Ore. (AP) – A Southern Oregon dam is scheduled to play a part in a movie next month. The movie “Night Moves” is about a plot to blow up a dam. But the Roseburg News-Review reports it will be just movie magic at the Galesville Dam near Azalea. The structure will remain intact through the film shoot that’s expected to take several days. The movie stars Dakota Fanning, Jesse Eisenberg, and Peter Sarsgaard. It is to be directed by Kelly Reichardt, who has filmed her last three movies in Oregon: “Meek’s Cutoff,” ”Old Joy,” and “Wendy and Lucy.”
