ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – Kansas police have arrested an Astoria woman accused of hitting her boyfriend with a car, killing him. The Daily Astorian reports that 21-year-old Jennifer Bennett was taken into custody Tuesday in Independence, Kan. Police Chief Harry Smith says authorities are recommending that Bennett be charged with murder in the death of 49-year-old Martin Dunn.

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – A woman found injured and unconscious on a Douglas County road has been identified. A sheriff’s spokesman said last night that the woman is a 53-year-old Roseburg-area resident. He did not release her name or other details. A passing motorist spotted the woman shortly after 2 a.m. yesterday. She’s now in a Springfield hospital with serious injuries.

LOWELL, Ore. (AP) – A post office in the Lane County community of Lowell has been hit by a burglar. The Register-Guard reports that this week’s burglary comes less than a month after three other post offices in the county were targeted. A post office worker tells the newspaper that mail may have been stolen in the Lowell burglary. It was discovered Tuesday morning.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – President Barack Obama has nominated a Multnomah County circuit judge to serve on the federal court bench in Eugene. The White House said yesterday that the president has nominated 51-year-old Michael McShane to fill an open position in the U.S. District Court for Oregon. The position opened up when Michael Hogan moved to senior status.
