TIGARD, Ore. (AP) – A 23-year-old mother and her boyfriend have been arrested in connection with the death of her 4-year-old son in Tigard. The Oregonian reports the boy was rushed to an area hospital last Tuesday from a homeless shelter, suffering from internal injuries. Police say Jessica Dutro-Boggess and Brian Canady were arrested yesterday after detectives discovered a history of physical abuse.

WHITE CITY, Ore. (AP) – Jackson County deputies say a homeowner in the southern Oregon community of White City fatally shot a man who ran up to his residence, claimed someone was chasing him and then tried to force his way in. Sheriff’s officials say 49-year-old Mark Corsbie of Medford was killed yesterday afternoon. The 65-year-old male homeowner was not immediately identified.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – University of Oregon leaders have decided not to pursue a full campaign including free T-shirts to encourage students to raise their own fees to upgrade the student union. The Oregonian says the campaign was designed by a top political firm. But UO now says the university won’t follow through on the hard-sell approach. Students vote in October whether to raise their fees to pay for a $135 million renovation and expansion of Erb Memorial Union.

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) – The Cottage Grove Speedway has been ordered to shut down because its owner has failed to make progress on city-mandated environmental and safety upgrades. An ordinance requires owner Bob Farwell to have submitted engineering drawings and permit applications by now. A speedway attorney tells The Register-Guard that he hopes to persuade the city to keep the track open and allow scheduled races.
