TUALATIN, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a hay truck fire
closed northbound lanes of Interstate 205 south of Portland for
hours and helped snarl the Tuesday evening commute on nearby
Interstate 5. Fire crews spent hours dousing the fire, which
started shortly before noon yesterday. State Police say driver
Michael King of Lynden, Wash., pulled over when he saw smoke coming
from behind the truck’s cab. The fire quickly spread to the single
flatbed trailer of 900-pound hay bales he was hauling. State Police
say he King was uninjured in the mishap.

BROOKINGS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say they have
tentatively identified a woman found dead in a burned motorhome
east of Brookings in southern Oregon. Sgt. Teresa Bowersox says the
dead woman is believed to be 21-year-old Ashley Anne Knaus, who
lived in the motorhome with her father. He was not home when the
time the fire started, believed to be late Sunday or early Monday.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon authorities say a man accused of
raping a 12-year-old girl has been arrested in North Carolina.
Sheriff Glenn Palmer of Grant County in Eastern Oregon say
36-year-old John Edward Williams Jr. fled last week after the abuse
of the girl came to light. Palmer says officers in North Carolina
charged Williams yesterday with stealing towels and blankets from a
motel there and then found he was wanted in Oregon.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – This week’s announcement that Alpha and
Omega Semiconductor Ltd. plans to buy an Integrated Device
Technology Inc. computer chip factory could save hundreds of jobs
at the plant in the Portland suburb of Hillsboro. Alpha and Omega
plans to pay $26 million for the plant, which The Oregonian reports
was due to close this year. The incoming company will make its own
semiconductors at the site, which employs 275 people.
