UNDATED (AP) – Firefighters are close to containing Oregon’s
biggest wildfire, burning in rangeland west of Fossil, but a new
fire has erupted in timber at the crest of the Cascades outside
Sisters. Fire officials say the Shadow Lake fire has burned about
350 acres, mostly in the Mount Washington Wilderness, in an area
about 15 miles west of Sisters. Firefighters are focusing on the
side closest to Sisters. Meantime, the Hancock fire is projected to
be contained tonight at about 45,000 acres.

BROOKINGS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say human remains
have been found in a motorhome heavily damaged by fire in a remote
area along the Chetco River east of the southern Oregon town of
Brookings. Authorities found the smoldering remains of the
motorhome early Monday on state land. State Police Lt. Gregg
Hastings says they confirmed the vehicle contained a body.
Detectives will be working with the state medical examiner’s office
to identify the person.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A rope rescue crew in Oregon’s Washington
County has rescued a deer hunter who had been trapped part-way down
a cliff after a fall. Hillsboro Fire spokesman Storm Smith says
32-year-old Jason Henry of Beaverton told rescuers he was bow
hunting yesterday when he tumbled about 100 feet down a steep
hillside, stopping his fall by grabbing a tree stump. He was later
rescued and refused medical treatment.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Eugene city councilor has been fined $500
for failing to file financial disclosure reports for three years.
The Oregon Government Ethics Commission’s staff had proposed fining
Mike Clark $888. However, agency Executive Director Ron Bersin said
yesterday that the panel decreased the fine because it felt the
agency could have done a better job educating Clark on the
importance of filing the forms.
