SEATTLE (AP) – Felix Hernandez matched his career high with 13 strikeouts in a brilliant five-hit complete game and John Jaso’s pinch-hit single in the bottom of the ninth scored Casper Wells to give the Seattle Mariners a 1-0 win over the Boston Red Sox. Hernandez tossed his fifth career shutout. It was the third time in his career he’d struck out 13, the most recent: last year.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Trail Blazers have selected guard Will Barton out of Memphis with the 40th overall pick in the NBA draft. The Conference USA player of the year last season, the 6-foot-6 Barton averaged 18 points and 6.5 rebounds. Portland also took point guard Damian Lillard out of Weber State at No. 6 as well as 7-foot-1 center Meyers Leonard out of Illinois at No. 11.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Trail Blazers traded the 41st overall pick in yesterday’s NBA draft, Tyshawn Taylor out of Kansas, to the Nets for cash considerations. Taylor averaged 16.6 points and 4.8 assists per game as a senior last season for the Jayhawks, who went to the NCAA championship game but fell to Kentucky. The 6-foot-3 guard is a native of Hoboken, N.J.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) – The Los Angeles Lakers selected Gonzaga center Robert Sacre last night with the final pick of the NBA draft. Sacre, a 7-foot Canadian, was the West Coast Conference’s defensive player of the year. Meantime, the Memphis Grizzlies have selected Tony Wroten with the 25th pick. The 6-foot-6 point guard from Washington averaged 16 points a game.
