SWEET HOME, Ore. (AP) – A 93-year-old man riding a power scooter has been killed in a collision with a van in Sweet Home. Police say Wallace Cole of Sweet Home died at the scene. The Albany Democrat-Herald reports Cole apparently was attempting to cross the street when he was hit. There are no crosswalks in the vicinity.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge conducts two hearings today in the labor slowdown that has disrupted cargo shipments at the Port of Portland. The dispute is over which union workers should plug in and unplug refrigerated shipping containers. The slowdown has prompted two shipping lines to divert ships to other ports.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – A Klamath Falls man found guilty of intentionally burning an infant has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. The Herald and News reports Jedadya Tamrin River Ferguson received the maximum sentence for burning the 10-month old son of his fiancĂ© in May 2011. Prosecutors say he suffered first-, second- and third-degree burns from his nose to his toes.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – A Prineville man infected with a plague infection remains in critical condition at a hospital in Bend. KTVZ reports family members decided to release his name – Paul Gaylord. He was bitten by a cat earlier this month when he tried to take a mouse out of its mouth. The illness is the fifth case of plague in Oregon since 1995.
