PHOENIX (AP) – Casper Wells hit a pinch-hit, two-run single in the top of the 10th inning and the Seattle Mariners rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 12-9 last night. Justin Smoak, Brendan Ryan and Kyle Seager homered for the Mariners, who have won three of their past four. Aaron Hill, Gerardo Parra and Paul Goldschmidt homered for the Diamondbacks, who saw their six-game home winning streak snapped. Tom Wilhelmsen struck out the side in the ninth for his fifth save.

PHOENIX (AP) – Ichiro (EE’-cheer-oh) Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners singled to lead off last night’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks for the 2,500th hit of his major league career. The 38-year-old had 1,278 hits in nine seasons with the Orix Blue Wave of the Japanese Pacific League before joining the Mariners in 2001. His 3,778 hits are the third-most among professional players in either country, seven more than Henry Aaron and trailing only Pete Rose (4,256) and Ty Cobb (4,191).

SEATTLE (AP) – The investor leading the push for a new arena that could bring the NBA back to Seattle says he hopes supporters don’t get disillusioned if it ends up taking five to seven years for pro basketball to return. In an interview with The Associated Press yesterday morning, Chris Hansen said he expects more options for NBA franchise relocations to become available over the next five years. But he cautioned it could be a lengthy process. He declined to discuss talks with the NBA.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (AP) – Cassidy Krug leads the 3-meter springboard preliminaries at the U.S. Olympic diving trials by 37.55 points over 2008 Olympian Christina Loukas. Krug totaled 359.40 points during the five-round session yesterday, with Loukas second at 321.85. The top 18 divers advanced to the evening semifinals at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center located south of Seattle. Bianca Alvarez was third at 312.50, followed by Kassidy Cook at 300.15 and Abby Johnston in fifth at 293.60.
