Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber will introduce his pick to be Oregon’s top school official today. Former New York City schools chancellor Rudy Crew is expected to be at a news conference in Portland. Crew is Kitzhaber’s pick to be Oregon’s first chief education officer with vast power to oversee education from preschool to college.
LAKEVIEW, Ore. (AP) – A spokesman says a search for an Idaho pilot believed to have gone down in southern Oregon is expanding, thanks to private help and assistance from neighboring Oregon counties and a California county. Klamath County officials say Tony Nicholls dropped off his two stepsons in Lakeview on Thursday and was to return home that day.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – After more than 40 years at the same station, Mike Donahue signs off this week as a noon anchor and reporter at KOIN-TV in Portland. Colleagues say that’s been an unusual run in a business where journalists frequently change jobs and move on – and a business that has gone through major cost-cutting and corporate changes. Donahue announced in March that he was retiring and turned 66 in April.
