ST. HELENS, Ore. (AP) – Police say a man who once pleaded guilty to attempted murder is in custody after fatally stabbing an Oregon mental health worker who was visiting him in St. Helens. Police Chief Steve Salle said Brent Redd called police yesterday to report that Columbia Community Mental Health worker Jennifer Warren had been stabbed. Warren died and Redd was hospitalized with injuries.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A bicyclist has died after being struck by a pickup truck near Grand Ronde. The Statesman-Journal reports that 65-year-old Steven Dayley of Washougal, Wash., was pedaling on Oregon Highway 18 Saturday afternoon when he was struck by a pickup truck.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland-based metal parts maker Precision Castparts Corp. said today that it has agreed on cash deals to buy Dickson Testing Co. and Aerocraft Heat Treating Co. Precision makes metal parts for aerospace, power and general industrial markets. Dickson and Aerocraft provide essential services to the aerospace industry.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – A Bend Republican who went from a candidate for state treasurer to voted out of office in less than 18 months says she’s mulling her next step. State Sen. Chris Telfer was soundly beaten in the Republican primary last week. The Bend Bulletin reports Telfer maintains a public accounting practice in Bend and still entertains the idea of being a political player in the state.
