GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – The Josephine County sheriff’s office says deputies fatally shot a driver who rammed a patrol car with a pickup truck. The sheriff’s office says deputies were chasing the truck Saturday night when the driver skidded to a stop at Cave Junction, put the pickup in reverse and rammed the patrol car. Forty-six-year-old Walter Phillips of Cave Junction was airlifted to a Medford hospital where he died.

LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) – Three men from southwestern Idaho have been arrested after police say they tried to elude officers in a stolen pickup near LaGrande. Oregon State Police say the chase began when a trooper stopped a pickup for speeding and held the 19-year-old driver. When they discovered the truck was reported stolen, a passenger got behind the wheel and fled with another passenger. Police abandoned the chase near the rural town of Union, Ore., but later arrested both suspects.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – While the Oregon Institute of Technology softball team was playing Saturday in Portland, thieves broke into two school vans and stole IDs, credit cards and laptops. The Oregonian reports the team planned to leave directly from the park so all of the players’ belongings were inside. In the time before the burglary was discovered more than $2,000 had been charged to three stolen credit cards.

TIGARD, Ore. (AP) – The wing of a small plane landing at an air strip in Tigard struck a photographer on the ground and knocked him unconscious.
