PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) – Brock Motum scored 25 points to lead
Washington State past Wyoming 61-41 in the quarterfinals of the
College Basketball Invitational tournament on Monday night. Abe
Lodwick added 16 points, 12 from behind the arc, and grabbed seven
rebounds for Washington State (17-16). The Cougars led by just five
points at halftime, but outscored Wyoming 35-20 in the second half.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Jared Cunningham had 27 points to lead
Oregon State to a 101-81 win against TCU Monday night in a
quarterfinal game of the College Basketball Invitational
tournament. Angus Brandt added a career-high 22 points and Devon
Collier 19 points for Oregon State (21-14), which will host Pac-12
rival Washington State in a Wednesday semifinal.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – Kayla Standish scored 19 points as
11th-seeded Gonzaga upset No. 3 Miami 65-54 on Monday to advance to
the round of 16 in the NCAA women’s basketball tournament for the
second consecutive season. Katelan Redmon scored 16 points for
Gonzaga (28-5), which was playing on its home floor in front of an
overwhelmingly supportive sold-out crowd.

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) – Seattle starter Jason Vargas was pounded
for seven runs and eight hits while getting just two outs, and the
Chicago Cubs beat the Mariners 12-7 Monday. Ichiro Suzuki, Jesus
Montero and Kyle Seager homered for the Mariners, who tied the
score 7-7 in the third against Travis Wood. Preparing for next
week’s major league opener in Tokyo against Oakland, the Mariners
used a starting lineup of regulars.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Matt Flynn says it was made completely
clear before he agreed to join the Seattle Seahawks that he was
going into an open competition with incumbent Tarvaris Jackson for
the starting quarterback job. Flynn said during a conference call
on Monday that when he visited with the Seahawks late last week,
the entire situation felt comfortable and felt like the team was
moving in the right direction. Flynn agreed to a three-year deal
with the Seahawks on Sunday.
