SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon lawmakers have reached a budget
compromise that avoids closing a prison in Salem but cuts payments
to people who provide in-home care to seniors and people with
disabilities. The budget also calls for cuts in middle management
positions, which had been opposed by Gov. John Kitzhaber. A
Kitzhaber spokesman has said the governor sign the budget.
HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Officers have arrested a man they’ve been
tracking since a shooting wounded a man yesterday morning at a
house in Metzger. Washington County deputies say Jeffrey Levi
Mcgregor was located by U.S. Marshals and was arrested early today
by a sheriff’s SWAT team and Hillsboro police as he slept in an RV.
Police are still looking for a woman who fled the shooting with
Mcgregor.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Citing a decline in the volume of
first-class mail, the U.S. Postal Service plans to close four
mail-sorting centers in Oregon. Facilities in Salem, Eugene, Bend
and Pendleton will be shut down and operations will be moved to the
center near the airport in Portland, starting as soon as mid-May.
The Postal Service says the closures will eliminate 164 jobs.
NEW YORK (AP) – Bail has been set at $5 million for the
president of an Oregon investment research firm accused of
securities fraud in New York. A federal judge set bail yesterday
for John Kinnucan (kuh-NOO’-kun), who appeared by videotape from
Portland where he’s been jailed since his arrest this month. The
government says Kinnucan used his position as president of
Broadband Research to lure secrets out of public company insiders.
