PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – One man has died in an early-morning house
fire in Portland. The Oregonian reports the fire was reported about
5 a.m., and neighbors told firefighters only one person lived in
the home.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Creswell parents accused of manslaughter
in the faith-healing death of their 16-year-old son are free on
bail, and wearing ankle bracelets. KEZI reports Brandi and Russell
Bellews are not staying together and neither can have any contact
with their children. Brandi Bellews’ son Austin Sprout died Dec. 20
after being ill for more than a week. Lane County deputies say the
parents declined to seek medical attention for the boy due to their
religious beliefs.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Multnomah County grand jury found no
criminal wrongdoing by Portland police who shot a man to death Jan.
25 at a downtown Portland parking garage. The Oregonian reports the
grand jury issued its ruling yesterday afternoon after hearing
three days of testimony about the shooting of 21-year-old Brad Lee
Morgan.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Roseburg businessman Dave Gilbert was
sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison for a check-kiting
scheme that defrauded banks. The Roseburg News Review reports the
federal judge in Eugene also ordered the 64-year-old to pay $1.9
million in restitution. Gilbert pleaded guilty in November to bank
fraud charges.
