SEATTLE (AP) – When he decided Washington was the place to play
his college ball, Darnell Gant believed it was a one- or two-year
springboard to a future in the NBA. Five years later, Gant gets
grief for being the old man on the team. Gant will close out his
lengthy home career at Washington this week when the Huskies host
Arizona State today and then face Arizona on Saturday afternoon.
He’ll be one of just two seniors honored on Saturday, with the
Huskies still fighting for the Pac-12 Conference lead.

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. (AP) – Tyrieshia Douglas emphatically
avoided elimination from the first U.S. Olympic women’s boxing team
trials last night, stopping Taversha Norwood in the fourth round of
their flyweight bout. Lightweight Mikaela Mayer also recorded a
fourth-round stoppage, dominating Asia Stevenson in the semifinals
of the challengers’ bracket of the double-elimination tourney.
Top-ranked middleweight Franchon Crews narrowly avoided elimination
with a 27-26 win over Tiffanie Hearn.
