Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
ESTACADA, Ore (AP) – Rescuers are searching for a young girl who
fell into the Clackamas River near Austin Hot Springs. Clackamas
County deputies say rescuers began looking for the 6- or 7-year-old
girl after receiving a 911 call from the child’s father shortly
after 4 p.m. yesterday. The sheriff’s office said early this
morning that the search was still under way and that a National
Guard helicopter was involved.

MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK, Wash. (AP) – The search for four
overdue climbers and campers on Mount Rainier resumes this morning,
a week after they were expected off the mountain. Park spokeswoman
Patti Wold says search parties yesterday didn’t find any sign of
the four, who are equipped for winter camping. Officials said
they’re hopeful that the missing dug in to wait out the storm.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – As federal forest payments come to an end,
Curry County in southwest Oregon is considering raising taxes and
other measures to stay afloat. But even as Curry and other Oregon
counties scramble to stay solvent, they’re sitting on millions of
dollars in road fund reserves – money deposited over decades of
timber harvests and earmarked for county roads. By law, the money
isn’t supposed to be used for anything other than roads, but the
Oregonian reports some counties have found creative ways around
restrictions.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Work could begin this spring on a new state
psychiatric hospital south of Junction City – if state lawmakers
back funding. For work to start this year, the Legislature must
approve a $29 million allocation of general fund-backed bonds for
the hospital. A small portion of the funding would go to the nearly
completed Salem psychiatric hospital. But the timing is difficult
given state government’s dire financial problems.
