Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – Rescuers have recovered the body of a child
from an Albany creek where a car was swept away last night from a
grocery store parking lot. Fire officials say the search continues
today for a missing adult. Another child and a man were rescued
last night, and the child has been taken to Oregon Health & Science
University Hospital in Portland. Periwinkle Creek flooded from
heavy rain and took the car from the parking lot of Mega Foods
about 7 p.m.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Winds gusting to 113 mph and rain swelled
rivers and creeks in Oregon as a fierce winter storm pounded the
Pacific Northwest yesterday. The storm brought little snow at lower
elevations in the state but the powerful winds knocked down trees
and caused power outages. News outlets reported a wind gust of 113
mph in Charlston, 110 mph at Cape Foulweather, 99 mph at Cape
Blanco.

VERNONIA, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Red Cross says it has set up an
emergency shelter in a small northwest Oregon logging town hit by
two feet of snow and a power outage. The town of Vernonia was the
scene of major flooding in 2007 so officials will be watching river
levels as the snow melts. West Oregon Electric said power had been
restored to all but about 800 customers by late last night.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Unions and groups that support abortion rights
have joined national Democratic officials in investing in Oregon’s
special election to replace former Congressman David Wu, and
national Republicans have for the first time invested money in the
GOP candidate. The race between Republican Rob Cornilles and
Democrat Suzanne Bonamici is being closely watched because it will
help signal the mood of voters going into a critical election year.
