The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Lazeric Jones scored 19 points, Tyler Lamb
had 14 and UCLA beat Eastern Washington 60-47 last night, giving
the Bruins their first back-to-back victories of the season. Jones
made three 3-pointers and added six rebounds and three steals for
the undermanned Bruins, who gained separation with an 11-1 run in
the second half. Collin Chiverton scored 15 points for Eastern
Washington.

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) – Malcoln Kirkland and Brandon Peterson had
double-doubles last night to lead Arkansas State past Seattle
87-74. Kirkland reached career highs with 18 points and 13
rebounds, while Peterson finished with 17 points and 12 boards as
the Red Wolves won their second in a row. Arkansas State’s Ed
Townsel tied a career best with 20 points. Aaron Broussard paced
the Redhawks with 25 points. Eric Wallace had 12 points.

UNDATED (AP) – Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis
says he is not panicking over the Beavers’ 3-9 season. De Carolis
said yesterday he is concerned but that he is confident that the
football program will turn around. From a fall camp besieged by
injuries to the season-opening loss to Sacramento State and the
final 49-21 defeat by in-state rival Oregon in the annual Civil
War, 2011 was the Beavers’ worst season since 1997.

SEATTLE (AP) – The Seattle Mariners have re-signed backup
catcher Chris Gimenez to a one-year contract, two days after he was
non-tendered by the club. Seattle announced the move yesterday.
Seattle’s 40-man roster now stands at 37. General manager Jack
Zduriencik says the team had every intention of bringing back
Gimenez but “some procedural stuff” forced the club to non-tender
him before he could be re-signed for next season.
