Beavers Take Pac 12; Viking Track and Field; Ducks Dominate Track and Field

Diamond Dominance for Beavers

The Oregon State Beavers are the Pac 12 baseball champions for the 5th year in a row.  In their Civil War Battle with the Ducks the Beavers were able to clinch a least a share of the League title with their 6-1 victory on Thursday and then clinched it on Friday evening in a nail biting 5-4 victory.  On Saturday at PK Park in Eugene it was a tough battle for both teams.  The Beavers stranded 14 runners in a tight race managing only 1 run on the day.  But it was enough as Beaver Pitching ruled the diamond once again.  Jake Thompson went 6 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits and striking out 5.  Reliever Brandon Eisert came in to finish for the Beavers and it came down to a 2 on and two chopper to 2nd baseman Nick Madrigal in the bottom of the ninth and beavers completed the sweep of instate rivals the Ducks.

Ducks Coach George Horton praised his team for the effort, and likened the pitching staff of OSU to the greats in the majors.  Saying it’s hard to hit off great pitching.  But that his team worked hard to keep it close in the final two games giving the ducks opportunities to win in both.
