Beavers sweep sixth straight conference series

Jake Thompson allowed one hit and struck seven in a career long 8 1/3 innings yesterday to send top-ranked Oregon State baseball to a 5-1 win over Utah at Goss Stadium in Corvallis.

Saturday for another 5-4 Beaver victory.  Yesterday’s win marked Oregon’s State’s 23rd consecutive and gives the Beavers a 28-1 record on the year.  They’re 12-0 in Pac-12 play and will host Gonzaga for a nonleague game tomorrow before heading to Seattle for a weekend series against Washington beginning Thursday.

In Eugene… the Ducks swept UC Irvine in three non-league games at PK Park over the weekend… 10-1; 6-3 and 7-2.  The Portland Pilots will be in Eugene tomorrow for a nonleague game, then Oregon heads to Tucson Thursday where they’ll start a three game series against Arizona.

On the prep track…

Viking senior Celie Mans won the 15-hundred meter in 5:09.32 at Saturday’s Junction City Invitational.  The freshmen finished well with Hannah Rannow coming in third and Anne Wartnik in sixth.

Carissa Oliver had another outstanding day, winning the Shot Put and the Discus.

For the boys, Trent Reavis threw a season-best 50-feet-9-inches to win the shot put.  He also won the discus and finished second in the Javelin with a personal record throw of 154-1 ½. Kyle King won the triple-jump and Clark Hooper swept the hurdles, winning the 110 in 16.03 and the 300 in a personal best time of 42.45.

In Blue River, the Mapleton Sailors were at the AMJ Invitational where Josi Hays had an outstanding day in the throws.  Hays won the shot put and the javelin, finishing second in the discus.  Tanner Wilson won the javelin for the boys; Cole Spencer the high jump. Tyler Packebush cleared 9-feet-six-inches to win the pole vault.
