Ducks lose to UNC
Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks will be watching the NCAA Men’s National Championship game tonight in Glendale, Arizona from the sidelines. They were eliminated from tournament play Saturday evening, losing to the North Carolina Tar Heels 77-76. The ‘Heels used a late first-half run to grab the momentum and then held off a late Oregon rally. UNC will face the Gonzaga Bulldogs this evening for the national title.
Prep softball…
Siuslaw was able to squeeze three games into the schedule over the weekend. The Vikings hosted Coquille for a double-header Friday afternoon, losing both games to the Red Devils. Siuslaw fell 5-4 in 11-innings in game one; then lost 19-8 in the nightcap. Saturday in Harrisburg, the Eagles came out on top over the Vikings 5-4. The Lady Vikings will host the Cheesemakers of Tillamook tomorrow. Viking baseball will be at Pleasant Hill Tuesday.
On the College baseball diamond…
Number one ranked Oregon State picked up a record 19th straight victory yesterday, completing a three game sweep of Stanford in the Bay Area. Jake Thompson struck out six in seven scoreless innings as the Beavs cruised to a 7-run shutout win. Thompson has a Pac-12 leading six wins so far on the year. Sunday’s victory capped a weekend in which the Beavers beat the Cardinal Friday 3-1, followed by a 15-7 victory Saturday.
Oregon State will be at the University of Portland tomorrow.
Utah took two of three games from the Oregon Ducks over the weekend in Salt Lake City. Oregon opened with an 11-1 win Friday, but the Utes came out on top Saturday and Sunday, 11-5 and 13-1. Oregon will remain in Utah one more day. They face Brigham Young today in Provo for a non-league game.
