SEATTLE (AP) — Jordan Morris drew a penalty to set up the first goal, scored on a header in the 66th minute to give Seattle the lead, and the Sounders celebrated last year’s MLS Cup title with a 3-1 win over the New York Red Bulls Sunday. More than 45,000 turned out for Seattle’s home opener and were rewarded by goals from Clint Dempsey on a penalty kick, Morris’ finish off a beautiful buildup and Harry Shipp’s redirected goal off Joevin Jones’ shot in the 79th minute.

MIAMI (AP) — Damian Lillard scored a season-high 49 points, 28 of them coming after halftime and the Portland Trail Blazers continued their playoff push by beating the Miami Heat 115-104 Sunday night. Jusef Nurkic added 21 points and 12 rebounds for Portland.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Tyler Dorsey hit a contested go-ahead 3-pointer from the top of the arc with 38.4 seconds to play, E.C. Matthews airballed a long 3 in the waning moments trying to force overtime, and third-seeded Oregon rallied in the second half to beat upstart Number 11 Rhode Island 75-72 Sunday. Rhode Island nearly scrapped and hustled its way into the next round.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Sydney Wiese scored 13 points in her final career game at Gill Coliseum and second-seeded Oregon State moved on in the NCAA Tournament with a 64-52 second-round victory over Number 7 seed Creighton Sunday night. Oregon State will go on to face third-seeded Florida State in Stockton, California.
