FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) — A 25-year-old Alaska man on Tuesday won the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports Matt Hall of Two Rivers crossed the finish line in downtown Fairbanks just after noon. It’s Hall’s first win in four tries in the race that goes between Fairbanks and Whitehorse, Yukon, where the Yukon Quest started Feb. 4.

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Felix Hernandez arrived for Seattle Mariners spring training on Tuesday already ahead in his offseason preparation from previous years. It’s the result of the World Baseball Classic and his determination to prove last year’s struggles were an anomaly. Hernandez said after taking his physical with the Mariners that he has to prove people wrong.

Seattle Sounders star Clint Dempsey says the symptoms that eventually led him to being diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat first surfaced last February but it wasn’t until late summer that it became serious enough to affect his ability to play. Dempsey spoke to the media Tuesday for the first time since he was diagnosed with the irregular heartbeat in August and his season was shut down.

Frank Busch, national team director for USA Swimming since 2011, will retire in September, following executive director Chuck Wielgus out the door at the sport’s national governing body. Busch said Tuesday he will leave on Sept. 1. Last month, Wielgus announced he is leaving on Aug. 31.
