Gonzaga, the last unbeaten team in Division I, moved to No. 1 in The Associated Press college basketball poll for the second time in school history. The Zags (22-0) jumped up from third when Villanova and Kansas both were beaten in a week when seven of the top 10 lost. Gonzaga received 46 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel Monday. The Zags were No. 1 for the last three weeks of the 2012-13 season. Gonzaga is the fifth team to reach No. 1 this season joining Duke, Kentucky, Villanova and Baylor. Baylor (20-1), one of the three top 10 teams to not lose, jumped from fifth to second. The Bears had six first-place votes and were one point ahead of Kansas (19-2), which dropped one place after losing at West Virginia before winning at Kentucky. The Jayhawks had nine first-place votes.

SEATTLE (AP) — Looking to bolster options in the midfield, the Seattle Sounders have signed Swedish midfielder Gustav Svensson. Seattle completed the signing Monday. Svensson is expected to fill a similar role to that of Erik Friberg — another Swedish player — who had his option declined by Seattle after last season and has returned to his native country.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Liberty have acquired Kia Vaughn and Bria Hartley from Washington as part of a three-way trade with Seattle on Monday.Washington receives the Storm’s No. 6 pick in the WNBA draft and Seattle gets Carolyn Swords from New York. Vaughn was drafted eighth by New York in 2009 and played for the Liberty for four seasons before heading to Washington in 2013. The New York native earned the league’s most improved player award in 2011.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson has pulled out of a plan to build a $1.9 billion domed stadium for the NFL’s Oakland Raiders to move to Las Vegas. In a terse statement on Monday, Adelson declared that he had been excluded from talks before the team sent a lease proposal last week to the public board that will own the 65,000-seat stadium.
