Prep basketball Friday night…

First the girls:  The Siuslaw Vikings went on a 17-4 run in the fourth quarter and scored the final 11 points of the game for a 47-31 Far West League victory over the South Umpqua Lancers.  Destinie Tatum led scoring with 18 points for the Vikings.

In the other two Far West games Friday night, Marshfield edged Brookings-Harbor 41-37.  North Bend slipped by Douglas 57-52.

For the boys, six of their eight points in the fourth quarter were at the free throw line and the Vikings upset 14th ranked South Umpqua 39-32 for a Far West League opening win.  Trent Reavis had 19 points for Siuslaw.  North Bend got by Douglas 64-61; Marshfield beat Brookings-Harbor 45-42.

The Vikings will be in Coos Bay tomorrow night where they’ll face the Marshfield Pirates.

The Mapleton Sailors fell to the Eagles in Eddyville Saturday… 46-42.

On the mats

Four Siuslaw Vikings placed in the top five in their weight classes at the Nick Lutz (LOOTZ) invitational at Siuslaw High School.  Richard Huff improved to 19-and-3 on the season, sweeping the 120-pound weight class.  Scott Simmons was second at 138 pounds.  He is now ten-and-five on the year.  Kainan Lane was third at 285; Nick Steinman was fifth at 170.

Turning to college basketball…

13th ranked Oregon jumped to an early 21-nothing lead Saturday evening in Eugene, then cruised to an 85-43 Pac-12 win over Oregon State.  Payton Pritchard had 17 points, Dylan Ennis added 16 for the Ducks’ 14th straight win… their 36th in a row at home.  Oregon will host Cal Thursday night; Oregon State will host Stanford.
