SEATTLE (AP) — The Mariners have made a pair of trades, landing left-handed starter Drew Smyly from the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander reliever Shae Simmons from the Atlanta Braves. Seattle completed the two deals yesterday. The Mariners acquired outfielder Mallex Smith from Atlanta, but then sent him to Tampa Bay along with infielder Carlos Vargas and left-hander Ryan Yarbrough.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — CJ McCollum had 27 points and the Trail Blazers shook of fatigue caused by weather-related travel delays to beat the defending NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers 102-86 last night. Allen Crabbe added 24 points off the bench for the Blazers, who have won four straight regular-season games against the Cavs at the Moda Center. Portland led by as many as 24 points.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is busy getting ready for the Seattle Seahawks and says he doesn’t know when he’ll be able to reschedule an interview with the Los Angeles Rams. Shanahan said yesterday his total focus has been on Saturday’s NFC divisional playoff game. He said he should know more about a possible time to speak with the Rams if the Falcons win.

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — Washington State quarterback Luke Falk says he will return for his senior season. Falk made the announcement yesterday. He says the chance to play one more season with his teammates and friends factored into his decision. Falk completed 70 percent of his passes for 4,468 yards with 38 touchdowns and 11 interceptions as Washington State finished 8-5 this season.
