Suislaw Grapplers compete in North Bend

Two Viking wrestlers placed in the weekend’s Army Strong Coast Classic tournament at North Bend High School.  Richard Huff won his first two matches at 120 pounds, before falling in the semifinal.  He won the next match but lost in the consolation final to finish with a fourth place medal.

Kainan Lane was sixth at 285 pounds.  He pinned his first two opponents, then fell in the semifinal.  Lane lost by decision in his final two matches.

On the prep basketball court…

The Mapleton Sailors picked up their first win of the season on the boys court with a 52-46 victory Saturday evening over Falls City-Kings Valley.  Hunter Simington had 16 points, Dominic Wells had 15.  In the girls’ contest, Falls City came out on top 38-24.

The lady Vikings came away from the Harrisburg-Junction City Tournament with one win and one loss.  The Viking girls fell to Junction City 52-38 Friday night, before turning the tables on tournament co-host Harrisburg with a 54-36 win Saturday afternoon.  For the boys, Junction City came out on top Friday night, 52-35, then the Harrisburg Eagles edged the Vikings 59-55 Saturday.

College Hoops

Tyler Dorsey scored 19 points and Dylan Ennis hit a tie-breaking 3-pointer late in the game and number 24 Oregon held off Alabama 63-56 Sunday evening.  Ennis’ shot started a 9-nothing run for the Ducks to finish the game… it was the sixth straight win for Oregon… their 31st consecutive at Matthew Knight Arena.

In Corvallis, Drew Eubanks had 23 points, 16 rebounds and six blocked shots, but Oregon State couldn’t complete the comeback bid, losing 93-90 to Savannah State.
