Prep and college basketball results; as well as high school wrestling

The Viking girls fell to Elmira 51-44 at home Friday night.  On the boys’ court, the Falcons downed the Vikings by the same 51-44 margin.  The Viking girls will host Newport tomorrow night; the boys will travel to Newport where they’ll face the Cubs.

The Mapleton Lady Sailors lost a pair of games at the Yoncalla Tournament over the weekend, losing 54-10 to Lowell in the opener, then falling to Yoncalla 48-11 Saturday.  The Boys met a similar fate… with Lowell coming out on top 31-61 Friday and Yoncalla coming away with the win 50- 41 Saturday.  The Sailors will host Reedsport tomorrow night.

College basketball…

Oregon romped past Savannah State 128-59 Saturday afternoon in Eugene.  Next up for the Ducks will be Alabama Sunday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.

In Charlotte, Kendall Manuel led the Beavers with 15 points, but the 49ers edged the Beavers 69-66.  The Beavers will host Savannah State tomorrow night.

On the mats…

Siuslaw grapplers were at the Perry Burlison Wrestling Classic at Cascade High School Saturday afternoon.  Richard Huff won his first three matches by large decisions before falling to Crescent Valley’s Legend Lamar in the 120 pound championship.

At 170 pounds, Nick Steinman lost his opening match by a 3-1 decision, then pinned his next two opponents in the consolation bracket before losing to West Albany’s Wyatt Walls.

Kainan Lan pinned his first two opponents at 285 pounds before losing to Cascade’s Seth Everetts in the quarterfinals… He pinned his next opponent in the consolation bracket before he was eliminated by South Salem’s Ashton Adams.

At 145 pounds Scott Simmons lost his first match, then pinned three straight opponents before losing in the consolation semis to Marshfield’s A.J. Lira.

Eyza (Asa) Abbas finished in second place in the girls’ 126 pound class.

Two other Vikings were on the mats… Quincy Rusk at 126 and Riley Jennings at 152.  Siuslaw wrestlers will be in North Bend Friday and Saturday for the Coast Classic.
