sports_featurephotoPrep football:  Vikings fall to the Trojans; Sailors sink the Wolverines

It was a rough night Friday in Winston for the Siuslaw Vikings as the Douglas Trojans romped to a 56-nothing Far West football victory.  The Vikings were playing without several key players, out with injuries, putting others in unfamiliar spots.   Things don’t get any easier this week as the Vikings will host number one ranked North Bend.

In the other two league games Friday night, North Bend ripped through Brookings 49-7; South Umpqua downed Marshfield 42-20.

Pac-12 football…

Ducks lose second straight

The Colorado Buffaloes held off Oregon 41-38 at Autzen Stadium Saturday afternoon.  The Buffs led from the start, but Oregon had taken the lead early in the fourth quarter… only to see it go away a few moments later on a controversial 31-yard touchdown pass from Colorado’s Steven Montez to Bryce Bobo.  The Ducks were driving on their last possession and appeared to be poised to go ahead when quarterback Dakota Prukop threw an interception in the endzone clinching it for Colorado.  It was Colorado’s first win over Oregon since joining the conference five years ago.  The Ducks will be in Pullman Saturday evening where they’ll face Washington State.

Broncos bust Beavers

Boise State used a big first half to beat Oregon State 38-24 Saturday in Corvallis.  Both teams scored on their opening drives, but the Bronco’s defense held the Beavers to just 41 yards of offense on their final six first-half drives while scoring 24-straight points to take a 31-7 half time lead into the locker room.   Oregon State will be at Colorado Saturday morning.

Florence Half Marathon

The first-ever half-marathon in Florence was run yesterday morning with Craig Godwin winning the event for the men in 1-hour, 15-minutes, and 53-seconds.   Lindsey Ulrich won the women’s race in one-hour, 33-minutes-and 31-seconds.  The 13.1 mile course began at Miller Park, went down Kingwood to Ninth Street.  From there it went out Rhododendron Drive to Driftwood Shores, reversing course and then taking a side trip down the hill to the North Jetty… and back up again… before finishing at Miller Park.
