PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland-based SeaPort Airlines has grounded its flights as it faces bankruptcy liquidation.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports a judge on Tuesday ordered the airline’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy to be converted to a Chapter 7 liquidation effective Wednesday.

The airline’s attempt to reorganize buckled this month after the airline learned it would lose a key contract and a line of credit helping keep it afloat.

An attorney for the airline’s creditors said the fleet would be grounded by 6 p.m. Tuesday. A Portland International Airport spokeswoman confirmed SeaPort would cease operations.

A spokeswoman for the airline couldn’t be immediately reached.

SeaPort, which primarily operates out of its Portland and Memphis hubs, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February.

DEAD WHALE

Dead whale makes appearance at second Oregon beach

SEASIDE, Ore. (AP) — A dead humpback whale that washed up on an Oregon beach last week has been found on another beach just two miles away.

The 38-foot mammal was found Tuesday on Short Sands Beach in Oswald West State Park after spending three days at nearby Falcon Cove beach. Oregon Parks and Recreation officials say the high tides in the next few weeks are not expected to be high enough to take the whale back out to sea, but it could still happen.

A necropsy to determine the animal’s cause of death is scheduled for Thursday.

Parks officials say visitors to the beach should not take any parts of the whale or touch the animal.

RANCHING STANDOFF

Prosecutor: Bundy had $8,000 cash when arrested

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A prosecutor says Ammon Bundy had more than $8,000 in his jacket at the time of his arrest.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig Gabriel told the court Tuesday the cash indicates Bundy planned to continue occupying the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge for a long time. Gabriel said the Idaho resident also had a withdrawal slip for $6,000 from a bank he visited in that state the day before his arrest.

Bundy was arrested Jan. 26 during a traffic stop as he and other occupation leaders were traveling to a community meeting north of the refuge.

He and six others are on trial in Portland, accused of conspiring to prevent federal workers from doing their jobs at the refuge. Two refuge employees and a Harney County sheriff’s sergeant testified Tuesday morning.

REDMOND-NO CLIMBING

Redmond closes climbing bridge after court ruling

(Information from: The Bulletin, http://www.bendbulletin.com)

REDMOND, Ore. (AP) — A central Oregon city will close the acclaimed recreational climbing route it constructed underneath an arched bridge after its insurance provider expressed concern about liability.

Redmond’s parks and recreation manager Annie McVay tells The Bulletin that the city doesn’t intend to permanently close the Maple Bridge Arches Climbing Project and believes it is very safe.

McVay says Citycounty Insurance Services called in June to say they wouldn’t renew coverage for the bridge in the wake of a March ruling by the state Supreme Court. The court found that a runner could sue the Portland city employee who dug a hole that caused her to injure herself.

Before that decision, it was believed that employees and volunteers would be protected from liability, along with the owners of free recreational facilities.
