Emeralds could clinch NWL tonight; football and volleyball results; Prep XC under way

Minor League Baseball:

The Eugene Emeralds won the South Division title with a 3-1 win Friday night over the Hillsboro Hops.  They started off the Northwest League Championship series in Everett yesterday with a 3-1 win.  The Emeralds and the Aqua-sox meet this evening at PK Park for game two of the best-of-three series.

On the gridiron… preps:

The Billies jumped to an early lead Friday night, then cruised to a 41-14 non-league football victory over the Siuslaw Vikings in Pleasant Hill.

In Elkton, Hunter Simington carried the ball 23 times for 215 yards and four touchdowns, but the Elks held off the Mapleton Sailors 56-34 Friday afternoon.

Ducks roll to another win

At Autzen Stadium Saturday night, Dakota Prukop threw for 331 yards and three touchdowns, Royce Freeman scored twice and rushed for 207 yards, as number 24 Oregon defeated Virginia 44-26.

Preps: volleyball

On the volleyball court, Siuslaw fell to Hermiston and Mountain View in two sets each Saturday in Canby.  The Vikings will open the Far West League season at home tomorrow against South Umpqua.

 

In Triangle Lake, the Sailors fell in two Mountain West League contests… losing to Mohawk and T-Lake 3-nothing.  Hailey Wells led the Sailors offensively with a total of nine kills on the day.  The Sailors will be at Siletz Valley Thursday evening.

XC off to a start

On the Cross Country course Saturday, Siuslaw’s Celie Mans finished 10th overall in the prep girls at the Ash Creek Cross Country Festival at Western Oregon University in Monmouth.  Jack Pickell (pih-KELL) was the first boy across the line for the Vikings… … he was 71st overall.

Siuslaw will be at Tugman State Park Wednesday for the North Bend Tugman Invitational.
