OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Kyle Seager doubled twice and drove in four runs as the Seattle Mariners won for the eighth time in nine games, beating the Oakland Athletics 8-4 on Sunday.

Adam Lind homered, Nori Aoki had three singles and Shawn O’Malley added two hits and scored twice for Seattle. The Mariners moved within 5 1-2 games of AL West-leading Texas, matching the closest they’ve been to the division leaders since early June.

Wade LeBlanc (2-0) gave up three runs over six innings to earn his second win since being acquired from Toronto in June. The lefty struck out seven and walked one.

Khris Davis, Ryon Healy and Brett Eibner homered for the A’s.

Zach Neal (2-2) allowed five runs and eight hits in 5 1-3 innings.

REAL SALT LAKE-SOUNDERS

Lodeiro scores first MLS goal, Sounders beat Real Salt Lake

SEATTLE (AP) — Nicolas Lodeiro scored his first MLS goal, then assisted on Jordan Morris’ team-leading eighth in the Seattle Sounders’ 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake on Sunday.

The Sounders (8-12-3) have won two straight and are 2-0-1 since parting ways with former coach Sigi Schmid on July 26.

Salt Lake (10-8-7) has won just twice in its last 10 games.

Lodeiro, the Uruguayan national midfielder signed by Seattle as a Designated Player on July 27, scored in the 24th minute. Clint Dempsey lofted the ball toward the left wing side. Andreas Ivanschitz took it into penalty area, crossed it toward the middle, and Lodeiro drilled it high into the left side of the net.

In the 37th minute, Dempsey sent a ball toward the left side, where Lodeiro caught up with it and floated a cross into the box. Morris ran onto a header that went in off the hands of goalkeeper Nick Rimando.

RSL’s Joao Plata scored on an uncontested 8-yard shot in the 62nd minute after goalkeeper Stefan Frei bobbled the ball at the top of the box while preparing to kick it downfield.

JOHN DEERE CLASSIC

Ryan Moore wins John Deere Classic for 5th PGA Tour title

SILVIS, Ill. (AP) — Ryan Moore won the John Deere Classic on Sunday for his fifth PGA Tour title, closing with a 4-under 67 for a two-stroke victory over Ben Martin.

The 33-year-old Tacoma resident finished at 22-under 262 at TPC Deere Run, playing the final 46 holes without a bogey and making only one in 74 holes. More won for the first time since successfully defending his CIMB Classic title in Malaysia in 2014.

Martin had three straight back-nine birdies in a 68.

Whee Kim of South Korea shot 67 to tie for third with Morgan Hoffmann (71) at 17 under.

Moore birdied Nos. 2, 4, 9 and 10 and closed with eight pars. He had a five-stroke lead when Hoffmann bogeyed the 12th hole. Martin, playing with Moore in the final twosome, birdied Nos. 12-14, but couldn’t get closer than two strokes.

Moore opened with three straight 65s in the event thrown off schedule by rain Thursday and Friday.

BOTHELL, Wash. (AP) — Washington state has a new largemouth bass record.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife says the 12.53-pound bass Bill Evans of Bothell pulled from Lake Bosworth is about a pound more than the previous record caught in 1977.

Evans tells KING-TV in a story on Saturday that when he hooked the fish on Monday he couldn’t do anything but hang on.

Evans says he plans to have the fish mounted.

OLY-RUSSIA-TRACK AND FIELD

Russia’s Klishina wins appeal, can compete at Rio Olympics

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) —The world track and field body has accepted a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport and says Russian long jumper Darya Klishina will be competing at the Rio Olympics.

Klishina was the only one of 68 Russians cleared to participate in Rio by the IAAF, the sport’s governing body. It tried to ban her from the Olympics last week, however, after receiving what it said was new information from World Anti-Doping Agency investigator Richard McLaren. Klishina had appealed that ban.

The IAAF says “we instigated a review process following new evidence presented to us. The outcome we reached to revoke Darya Klishina’s exceptional eligibility was not upheld by CAS despite the information received from McLaren and she is therefore eligible to compete in Rio.”

The court said Klishina can take part in Tuesday’s qualifying because she has been based outside of Russia for three years and been subjected to regular drug testing.
