PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Authorities have identified a bicyclist who was struck and killed by a driver in Portland. KATU-TV reports that police officers responded to the scene around 3 p.m. Friday.

MYRTLE POINT, Ore. (AP) — The district attorney for Coos County says a Myrtle Point teenager was justified in shooting a man who police say attempted to burglarize his home. Coos County District Attorney Rob Frasier tells KCBY-TV that the 15-year-old boy feared for his safety when he grabbed a shotgun and shot the suspect in the leg.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a 76-year-old woman found in her Springfield home as a homicide. Police had responded Friday to a report of an unresponsive person to find Dorothy Ruth Ashley dead at the residence, where she lived alone.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Several Alaska fire crews have been sent to help battle blazes in other parts of the western U.S. as the state’s fire season winds down. Alaska fire spokeswoman Beth Ipsen says 100 firefighters are assisting crews near Idaho City, Idaho, where a fire has covered about 76 square miles. KTUU-TV reports that the Chena Hot Shot Crew also is working on a fire in Montana, while the Midnight Sun and Pioneer Peak crews are in Oregon.
