Lester squeezes in deciding run, Cubs beat Mariners in 12
CHICAGO (AP) — Pitcher Jon Lester drove in Jason Heyward with a two-strike squeeze bunt in the 12th inning, and the Chicago Cubs overcame a six-run deficit to beat the Seattle Mariners 7-6 on Sunday night.
Heyward sparked the winning rally with a leadoff double off the wall in right-center. He advanced on Willson Contreras’ fly ball to center against Cody Martin (1-1) before Lester managed to get a bunt down right in front of the plate.
Heyward made it home with a headfirst slide, sparking a frenzied celebration at Wrigley Field. Hector Rondon (2-2) pitched two innings for the win.
The Cubs trailed 6-3 before they pushed across three runs in the ninth against Steve Cishek, handing the sidewinding right-hander his sixth blown save in 31 opportunities. Addison Russell hit an RBI single and Contreras drove in another run when he hustled down the line to beat out a potential double-play grounder.

Orioles acquire LHP Miley from Mariners
CHICAGO (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles have acquired left-hander Wade Miley in a trade with the Seattle Mariners.
Miley is 7-8 with a 4.98 ERA on the year but he had a 3.45 ERA in five July starts. He pitched seven innings of one-hit ball in Seattle’s 4-1 against the major league-leading Chicago Cubs on Saturday.
Seattle received left-hander Ariel Miranda in Sunday’s trade. The Cuban pitcher has spent most of the year with Triple-A Norfolk. He appeared in one game for Baltimore on July 3 at Seattle, allowing three runs and four hits in two innings.
The 29-year-old Miley was selected by Arizona with the 43rd pick in the 2008 amateur draft and made his major league debut with the Diamondbacks in 2011. He is 56-54 with a 4.07 ERA in six years in the majors.

Seattle dominates, but settles for 1-1 draw with Los Angeles
SEATTLE (AP) — Cristian Roldan scored his second goal of the season in the 49th minute to give Seattle the lead, but a defensive miscue late allowed Los Angeles’ Sebastian Lleget to score the equalizer in the 78th minute as the Sounders and Galaxy finished in a 1-1 tie.
Seattle was in position to get the victory in the debut of interim head coach Brian Schmetzer, taking over this week after the club and Sigi Schmid parted ways. Yet the frustrating season for the Sounders (6-12-3) continued after missing numerous chances to put the game away in the second half.
Roldan’s goal was his second of the season off an assist from Nelson Valdez. But Seattle’s defense that broke down in the closing minutes, allowing a chipped pass by Steven Gerrard to find Lletget unmarked at the back post to tap in his first goal since August 23rd, 2015.

Acosta, Urruti help FC Dallas beat Whitecaps 2-0
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Kellyn Acosta and Maximiliano Urruti scored to help FC Dallas beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 Sunday night.
Acosta buried a right-footer in the bottom-right corner off a feed from Michael Barrios in the 56th minute. Three minutes later, Urruti slipped behind the defense and beat goalkeeper David Ousted from the corner of the 6-yard box, set up by Atiba Harris’ feed from midfield. It was Urruti’s sixth goal of the season.
Dallas’ Chris Seitz had one save and has seven shutouts this season, tied with Luis Robles of the New York Red Bulls for most in MLS.
Vancouver (8-9-6) is winless in its last three matches.
FC Dallas (13-6-5), which outshot the Whitecaps 16-6, is unbeaten in its last three games and has just one loss in its last seven. It leads MLS with 44 points.

Peterson, Feilhaber lead Sporting KC to 1-0 win over Timber
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Jacob Peterson scored and Benny Feilhaber had an assist to help Sporting Kansas City beat the Portland Timbers 1-0 on Sunday.
Peterson flicked a header, off a free kick by Feilhaber, to the bottom-right corner in the 50th minute.
Alec Kann made a diving stop of a strike by Darlington Nagbe — Portland’s only shot on goal — in the 10th.
The Timbers (7-8-8) had chances in stoppage time. Jack McInerney blasted a right footer from the left side of the box off the crossbar in the first minute, and Fanendo Adi’s header, off a cross by Vytautas Andriuskevicius, from the right side of the 6-yard box missed wide right about three minutes later.
Kansas City’s Jimmy Medranda earned and fifth yellow card and will be suspended for Sporting’s next match, August 7th at Portland.

Dolphins’ Jordan recovering from minor knee surgery
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Miami Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan is now missing practice for two reasons.
Jordan is expected to be sidelined at least a couple of weeks while recovering from minor knee surgery. He has been placed on the active non-football injury list.
Jordan had not yet been cleared by the NFL to practice after receiving conditional reinstatement Friday following a 15-month suspension for his latest violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. He has been taking part in team meetings.
The former 3rd overall draft pick from Oregon watched Sunday’s practice from the sideline.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins activated running back Arian Foster from the physically unable to perform list. The former Pro Bowler signed this month and is returning from Achilles tendon surgery.
Miami signed cornerback Brandon Harris and waived former Dallas Cowboys corner Tyler Patmon.
PGA TOUR CANADA-WISE
Former Oregon player Aaron Wise wins in Canada
EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Former University of Oregon player Aaron Wise won the Syncrude Oil Country Championship on Sunday for his first Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada victory.
The NCAA individual champion in May, Wise closed with a 2-under 70 at Glendale Golf and Country Club for a one-stroke victory over Brock Mackenzie and Argentina’s Puma Dominguez.
“I battled all day long,” Wise said. “I got a couple of good breaks and a couple bad breaks. For it all to come in the way it did and for me to win, that was the goal and I’m very excited.”
Wise finished at 19-under 269 after opening with rounds of 67, 66 and 66.
Mackenzie shot a 71, and Dominguez had a 68.
