Late points surge lifts Vikings above Marshfield

The Siuslaw Girls Track and Field team came home from the OSAA 4A State Meet in Eugene with the second place trophy.  The girls had 72 points behind Astoria with 109.5.  Marshfield was third with 63.5 points.

The Vikings boast two individual state champions… Destinie Tatum set a new school record with a win in the 800 meters in a time of 2:17.62.  Mikaela Siegel won the 100 meter hurdles in 15.61 seconds, just 11-one-thousandths off her own record set a year ago.  Siegel also finished fifth in the triple jump.

Other top five finishes for Siuslaw:  Annmarie Precht was fourth in the 200, fifth in the 100, and fourth in the long jump; Morgan Bingham was 5th in the 15-hundred and fourth in the 3,000.  Celie Mans was third in the 3-K; Carissa Oliver was third in the shot put, fourth in the discus;

The boys ended in a 3-way tie for 12th with 20 points.  Henley won the title with 83.5.  North Bend was fourth with 44.5 points.

Murray Bingham was fourth in the 1500 and the 3000; Trent Reavis was third in the shot put, fifth in the discus.

Rhody Run Results

Florence’s Jacob Berkner won the men’s 5-K with a time of 18:35 Saturday morning in the 38th running of the Rhodies.  Kat Henning of North Bend was the women’s winner in 21:12.

In the 10-K, it was Leah Card of Florence finishing first for the women in 44:19.  Steve Bean of Eugene won the men’s ten in 36:39.

College Baseball

Oregon State salvaged a series win in the southland, taking two out of three Pac-12 games from USC over the weekend.  The Beavers won 3-1 and 4-1 Friday and Sunday; sandwiching a 10-1 loss in Saturday afternoon.

won the first two games of a three-game series at home against Arizona, taking Friday and Saturday’s matchups 3-nothing and 4-2 before losing yesterday 5-4.

Duck Softball Sweeps Regional

The fifth ranked Oregon Softball team dominated the Eugene Regional over the weekend to advance to Super Regional play in the NCAA Softball finals.  The Ducks went 3-0 over the weekend, capping it with an 8-1 win over Baylor yesterday at Jane Sanders Field in Eugene.  They’ll take on Pac-12 foe UCLA this weekend in a best-of-three tournament beginning Saturday in Eugene.
