Historic Hayward Field hosting once again

Competition got underway yesterday at Hayward Field in Eugene for the 1A portion of the OSAA State Track and Field Finals.  Mapleton’s Hunter Simington was fifth in the finals for the boys’ pole vault with a leap of 12-feet even.  The girls 4-by-400 relay team of Erin Michael, Alyssa Richards, Hannah Rodet and Clarissa Triebskorn run later today.

Seven girls and two boys from Siuslaw will compete beginning today at the 4A portion of the meet.

Trent Reavis is in the discus and the shot put; Murray Bingham in the 1500 and 3000.

For the Girls, there are several multiple event qualifiers… Destinie Tatum in the 800 and high jump; Annmarie Precht in the 100 and 200; Celie Mans and Morgan Bingham in the 15 and 3000; Carissa Oliver in the shot and the discus; Mikaela Siegel in the 100 hurdles, the triple jump and the long jump.  The final qualifier for the Siuslaw Girls:  Kaeli Ramos will run in the 400.  She along with Tatum, Morgan Bingham and Precht will also run the 4-by-400 relay.

39th Rhody Run

Speaking of running… 277 people preregistered for tomorrow’s 38th annual Rhody Run… Race organizers expect as many as 100 more to sign up beginning tomorrow at seven a.m.  That’s at the Florence Events Center.

The five-and-ten-k runs begin at nine.  Racers will head through Old Town, eventually making their way out to Rhododendron Drive before reversing course and making their way back to the FEC.

On the diamond this weekend…

Oregon is at home for a three game conference series against Arizona. Oregon State is in southern California where they’re going up against the Trojans.  Tonight’s game airs on KCFM with the pregame show starting at 6:30.  They’ll meet again tomorrow afternoon at one, then close out Sunday at noon.  Both of those games will also air on KCFM.

Play opens today in the NCAA Division I softball championships, with three days of regional play at 16 regional campus sites.  One of those is at Jane Sanders Field on the Campus of the University of Oregon where the Ducks will take on Fordham this evening.  Also playing in the Eugene Regional is Baylor and Long Beach State.
