Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The AAA auto club reports the average
price of a gallon of gasoline in Oregon is $3.65. That’s down a
nickel in a week and 15 cents in a month, but it’s 14 cents higher
than the national average. Some metro prices from today’s survey —
Portland $3.62, Salem $3.57, Eugene-Springfield $3.68, and
Medford-Ashland $3.77.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – City officials in Bend say it could be a few
decades before all curb ramps in the city meet the federal
requirements of the American with Disabilities Act standards. The
Bend Bulletin reports that the city is under a U.S. Department of
Justice order to bring all of its buildings and curb ramps built
after 1992 into compliance with ADA guidelines by 2014. While the
city has finished all the work on its buildings, it still has about
5,500 curb ramps that aren’t accessible under ADA guidelines.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – An increase in Medford construction
projects has been welcome news to companies and workers hit hard by
the recession. The Mail-Tribune reports Medford has seen more than
$75 million worth of commercial construction this year with more
expected. Mark VonHolle, head of Southern Oregon Regional Economic
Development Inc., says the region is seeing contractors and
subcontractors moving from survival mode to recovery mode.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Homeless people will now have a new place to
shelter their dogs when they use the services at St. Vincent de
Paul’s Eugene center. The Register-Guard says volunteers spent
Saturday building a dozen doghouses with carpeting and roofing
material to keep moisture out. About 150 homeless people stop by
the agency each day for food, to take showers, do laundry or get
mail. Many bring their dogs. Until recently the dogs were put in an
enclosure and tied to a fence.
