Mariners back Karns with enough offense in 4-3 win over A’s
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Robinson Cano had three hits and scored twice, Kyle Seager hit a tiebreaking double in the sixth inning and the Seattle Mariners beat the Oakland Athletics 4-3 on Monday night.
Nelson Cruz added three hits, and Chris Iannetta and Adam Lind drove in runs for the Mariners, who have won five straight at the Oakland Coliseum.
Nathan Karns (3-1) gave up three runs over six-plus innings. Seattle’s right-hander lost to Oakland in his first start of the season on April 9 but struck out six and walked one this time to earn his third straight win.
Steve Cishek struck out pinch-hitter Jed Lowrie with two runners on for his seventh save.
Khris Davis homered twice and had three RBIs for the A’s.

Warriors still hopeful to have Stephen Curry back for Game 3
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Stephen Curry was expected back on the court for more light shooting Monday to test his sprained right knee, still with the hope he could be ready to return for Golden State’s Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals Saturday at Portland.
Coach Steve Kerr said Monday that the reigning MVP wouldn’t be available for Tuesday night’s Game 2 with the Warriors up 1-0 in the best-of-seven series after a 118-106 win Sunday in the opener.
Curry only briefly showed his face during the team’s shooting time Monday. Golden State didn’t hold a formal practice but instead watched film and shot around. He didn’t take any shots during the portion the media could watch.
The superstar point guard sprained the MCL in his knee during a Game 4 first-round victory at Houston on April 24 when he slipped on a wet spot.

Council votes not to sell street for potential Seattle arena
SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle’s City Council has voted not to vacate a stretch of road where an investor hopes to eventually build an arena that could house an NBA and NHL team.
The council on Monday chose not to give up a small section of Occidental Avenue South in the city’s Sodo District, throwing a wrench in Chris Hansen’s arena project by a 5-4 vote.
Vacating the street was viewed as the last major step toward Hansen getting a master use permit and making the arena “shovel ready,” which might help him acquire an NBA team before a memorandum of understanding for the project with the city and King County expires in late 2017.
The Port of Seattle and other groups opposed vacating the street, saying the arena project could infringe on nearby industrial activities.

Liberty trade for All-Star guard Shoni Schimmel
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Liberty acquired All-Star point guard Shoni Schimmel from the Atlanta Dream for a 2017 second-round draft pick.
Schimmel, the eighth pick in the 2014 draft, has made the All-Star team in each of her first two seasons in the WNBA. She’s averaged 8.0 points, 3.4 assists and 1.5 3-pointers.
She was the MVP of the 2014 All-Star Game when she scored 29 points. Schimmel provides the Liberty with depth at the guard spot and a proven 3-point shooter.
