Siuslaw football coach announces retirement

sports_featurephotoAdministrators at Siuslaw High School are preparing to do something they’ve only had to do twice in the past 50 years.

Hire a new varsity football coach.

After 20 years in charge of Viking football, Tim Dodson has officially announced he will not be returning for the 2016 season.

Dodson followed 30-year coaching veteran Len Lutero as the head coach in 1996.  Lutero is the man who coached Dodson as a young man.  The two were on the field in 1981 when Siuslaw and South Umpqua played to a tie and shared the state title.  Dodson got his own outright title, this time as a coach, in 2006.

Under his tutelage, Siuslaw garnered five league titles and numerous post season appearances.  The Vikings appeared in four state quarterfinal games in the past 20 years.

Siuslaw High School officials have been contacted for comment about the process for selecting a new coach.
