MLS-TIMBERS-GALAXY

Nat Borchers’ own goal helps Galaxy avoid rare home loss

CARSON, Calif. (AP) — Fanendo Adi opened the scoring for Portland in the 52nd minute, and Nat Borchers’ own goal in the 84th helped the Los Angeles Galaxy tie the Timbers 1-1 on Sunday night.

Diego Valeri’s diagonal lead pass set up Adi as he peeled away from the defensive back line and finished with a low right-footed shot — his fourth goal of the season.

Borchers made a diving attempt to clear Sebastian Lletget’s cross, but inadvertently smashed the header into the Timbers’ goal.

The Timbers (1-2-2) have one win at StubHub Center in eight visits; the Galaxy (2-1-2) extended their unbeaten run to 39 of the last 41 home games.

Galaxy defender Robbie Rogers left in the eighth minute due to a hip contusion. Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe exited in the 76th after a leg injury from Nigel de Jong’s tackle. Referee Allen Chapman gave de Jong a yellow card for the challenge.

Sounders earn a 1-1 draw on Marshall’s late goal at Houston

HOUSTON (AP) — Chad Marshall scored in the 94th minute to give the Seattle Sounders a 1-1 tie with the Houston Dynamo on Sunday.

Marshall buried the finish from a behind the 6-yard box after Oalex Anderson’s cross deflected off goalkeeper Joe Willis and defender Raul Rodriguez. The final whistle blew shortly after the ensuing kickoff to give Seattle (1-3-1) its first draw of the season.

Giles Barnes scored for Houston (1-2-2) in the 35th minute. He was facing away from the ball when Jalil Anibaba made a pass, turned around in time to see it coming his way and improvised a 15-yard turnaround flick that looped into the upper left corner.

Willis had five of his six saves in the second half, stopping Clint Dempsey’s attempt in the 92nd minute.

Timberwolves post a 106-105 victory over Trail Blazers

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) —The Minnesota Timberwolves held off a furious rally by the Portland Trail Blazers for a 106-105 victory.

Karl-Anthony Towns hit a turnaround hook shot with 1.8 seconds left to lift Minnesota in Saturday’s game.

After Zach LaVine’s free throws for the Timberwolves, Lillard made a 3-pointer and was fouled with 3.5 seconds left to pull the Blazers in front for a 105-104 lead.

Towns’ winning shot gave him 27 points, and the Timberwolves snapped an eight-game losing streak in Portland. Andrew Wiggins added 23 points.

Lillard had 31 points for the Blazers, whose eight-game winning streak at home was snapped.
