Beavers Beat Baylor

Sydney Wiese scored 18 points, including three free throws in the final 33 seconds, and Oregon State beat Baylor 60-57 last night to capture the Dallas Regional in the women’s NCAA Basketball tournament.  The Beavers will take on U-Conn Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis in a semi-final game.

Oregon advances to WNIT Final Four

In the WNIT, Oregon overcame an 18 point first half deficit to beat UTEP 71-67 to advance to that tournament semi finals.  The Lady Ducks will travel to South Dakota Wednesday where they’ll take on the Coyotes.

Beavers fall on the diamond

On the diamond last night, Oregon State couldn’t hang on to a late game lead, and committed three errors for their fourth straight loss… this one 6-5 to the San Diego State Aztecs in Corvallis.  The two teams meet again tonight.

Athlete of the week

Siuslaw Track and Field standout Mikaela Siegel is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week.  The all-around athlete competed at the Bend Heptathlon last week where she won the 800 and the 100-meter hurdles, scoring 3,229 points and finishing fourth overall.  Siegel also finished second in the long jump.

Honorable mention is given to Anna Stonelake.  The softball standout was 2-for-2 at the plate with two sacrifices and one RBI in the Vikings loss to Reedsport last week.

On the prep diamond today…

Viking Baseball is at home against the Elmira Falcons at 4:30 for non-league action.  That game will air on Coast Radio Sports with the pregame show at 4:15.  The Lady Vikings are in Elmira for seven innings against the Falcons… that game also at 4:30.
