PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – In an effort to get people to pay their taxes, Oregon has released the names of the top 100 businesses and individuals who owe money to the state. The Oregonian reports that Randall Jeffers of Woodburn topped the list for individual tax evasion. The Oregon Department of Revenue says Jeffers owes more than $3.8 million in personal income tax. On the business side, temp agency Courtesy Staffing in Boardman owes the state $509,000.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Salem man has pleaded guilty to his role in the death of a woman found along a rural road near Salem in 2014. The Statesman Journal says Matthew Lupinacci entered the plea yesterday in Marion County to second-degree manslaughter and second-degree abuse of a corpse. Autopsy results showed Chanda Donohoe of Salem died of toxic effects of heroin and meth. Two others face charges in her death.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A bill that would require genetically engineered fish to be labeled in Oregon has died in a Senate committee. The Capital Press reports that the Senate Committee on Health Care failed to act on the bill by the Legislature’s Feb. 23 deadline in this year’s short legislative session.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – James Harden scored 46 points and the Houston Rockets overcame a 21-point, third-quarter deficit to beat the Trail Blazers 119-105 last night. The Rockets proved resilient against the Blazers, rallying to tie it at 95 with 7:40 left, then taking the lead. Damian Lillard had 23 points for the Blazers, who had won 15 of their last 18 to move into playoff position in the Western Conference.
