Mapleton Sailors in Mt. West Girls’ playoff

On the court last night, the Mapleton Sailors wrapped up the regular season in the Mountain West League at McKenzie High School. In the boys’ game, the Eagles came out on top 36 – 32.

For the girls, the Lady Sailors lost 56-13, but they will play in a league playoff game tonight at Mohawk High School against the Indians at 7:20 PM. The winner will advance to next week’s Mountain West League playoffs.

Turning to Pac-12 basketball…

The Cal Bears got off to a strong start last night in Berkley, going on to maul the 11th ranked Oregon Ducks 83-63. Jabari Bird scored a season high 24 points for Cal’s third win over a ranked team this season.

Across the bay in Palo Alto, Oregon State did something they’ve not done since last year… Won a Pac-12 game on the road. The Beavers never trailed in the 62-50 win over Stanford. Tres Tinkle had 19 points. It was only the second win by Oregon State at Stanford since 1993.

On the schedule

Tonight… Viking Basketball is at home against the Brookings-Harbor Bruins. The girls top off at six, the boys right after. The pregame show on KCST is at 5:45.

Pac-12 basketball this weekend… Oregon is at Stanford tomorrow at one… the pregame show on KCST is at 12:30. Oregon State and Cal tip off at 3:30. The pregame show on KCFM is at three.

And back to prep sports briefly… the Siuslaw Viking Cheer team will compete tomorrow morning at the OSAA 4A small schools championship at Memorial Coliseum in Portland.
