BURNS, Ore. (AP) – A Refuge occupier says he and three other holdouts will turn themselves in at a nearby FBI checkpoint at 8 this morning. He said they plan to leave their weapons in their vehicles and walk one-by-one to the checkpoint while carrying an American flag.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – State economists say Oregon’s economy and job market continue to grow at a steady pace but they warn that ongoing problems in the stock market could take a big chunk out of tax revenues starting next year. The forecast predicts a modest increase in revenue for the state’s current budget period. That means lawmakers will have about $61 million more to work with for education, housing and other services they’re hoping to boost through budget tweaks this year.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Public health officials say Oregon has a confirmed case of the Zika virus. The Oregon Health Authority says the woman contracted the virus outside the United States and has since recovered. The authority says there’s no danger to the public. This is the first laboratory-confirmed case of Zika in Oregon this year.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Florida businessman who bribed his way into winning multi-million dollar contracts to supply Portland’s parking meters has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison. George Levey pleaded guilty last year to honest services wire fraud for paying bribes to Ellis McCoy, manager of Portland’s parking operations division. McCoy was sentenced last year to two years in prison for accepting the bribes.
