SEATTLE (AP) – Relief pitcher Joel Peralta has agreed to a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners and will report to big league spring training. The 39-year-old right-hander has spent parts of 11 seasons in the major leagues with six clubs. Peralta was 3-1 with a 4.34 ERA in 33 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, spending two stints on the disabled list with shoulder and neck injuries.
SEATTLE (AP) – The Washington Huskies are having renewed success this season and sit in fourth place in the Pac-12 despite having 40 players foul out in 23 games. That’s the most in the country and not by a small margin. The next closest is Northern Colorado with 23.
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) – Stanford defensive line coach Randy Hart is retiring after 46 years as a college coach. Hart says he is “one of the luckiest coaches ever” for being able to have a career that took him to Tampa, Iowa State, Purdue, Ohio State, Washington, Notre Dame and Stanford. Hart spent the past six seasons with the Cardinal.
UNDATED (AP) — The U.S. women’s national soccer team is concerned about the developing Zika virus crisis in Latin America. The 2016 Olympics are scheduled for Aug. 5-21 in Brazil, where the Zika virus is spreading rapidly. The Americans are ranked No. 1 in the world and are vying for one of the two Olympic team berths for the North and Central America and Caribbean region.
