SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – Some Northwest Indian tribes in the next 20 years want to achieve a long-held dream: restoring wild salmon runs above the giant Grand Coulee Dam. The construction of Grand Coulee in the 1930s blocked salmon runs that historically ran into the millions of fish each year, killing what had been a way of life for Indian tribes in the region.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police say a woman either fell or jumped from a building in downtown Portland. The Oregonian reports there are no indications of foul play involved in her death.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Eugene police say they will begin a special driving enforcement today to look for distracted, unbuckled or speeding drivers. The two-week effort will look for drivers committing the three most common violations that contribute to crash-related deaths: speeding, not using seat belts and talking on the phone while driving.

FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) – Authorities are investigating the identity of a dead man found on Baker Beach, about 7 miles north of Florence. The World newspaper reports the body was found washed ashore this weekend. The Lane County medical examiner is assisting in identifying the man and finding out how he died.
