Destinie Tatum had 17 points and 13 rebounds; Taylor Dotson added 13 points, and the Siuslaw Girls rolled to a 46-34 victory over South Umpqua in their Far West League opener Friday night. The Viking boys struggled in their opener, falling 52-20 to the Lancers.

Devils sweep Sailors in the Mt. West

In Lowell, the Devils swept the Sailors in a pair of Mountain West League contests. The Mapleton Girls falling 55-16 to the third ranked 1A team in the state. For the boys, the Sailors scored a season high, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to Lowell 74-44.

Siuslaw sixth at Nick Lutz Invitational  in Florence

On the mats Saturday, Matthew Morales and Ricky Huff claimed wins in their weight classes, aiding the Vikings to a sixth place finish at the Nick Lutz Invitational in Florence. Elmira was first, followed by Thurston and Sheldon. Creswell was fourth and Springfield was fifth out of 17 teams.

Morales won his first two matches by fall, claiming the championship at 106 pounds with a 3-1 decision.

At 113 pounds, Huff pinned his way through four opponents.

Scott Simmons was third at 138; Dylan Jennings, Fourth at 220; Kainan Lane was also fourth; he at 285.

College Basketball…

Oregon State jumped to an 11-2 lead in the first half, but stumbled when Jarmal Reid appeared to trip a referee on purpose and was ejected with 2:56 remaining in the game. Utah rallied from there and went on for a 59-53 victory.

In Boulder, Josh Scott scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Colorado to a 91-87 victory over Oregon.
