OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – Police in Oregon say a slow-moving landslide has prompted evacuation orders for two apartment buildings south of Portland. Residents of 10 apartments at the Berryhill Townhouses and Apartments in Oregon City, about 13 miles south of Portland, have been told to evacuate by 5 this evening. The order comes as city officials have been monitoring slide activity on a hill there since Dec. 14.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police have released the names of the man killed and two injured in a shooting at a Portland motorcycle club this weekend. They say the shooting left 40-year-old Demarcus Spencer dead and 41-year-old Dwayne Bates and 35-year-old Jason Burk injured. Bates and Burk were taken to a hospital but their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – The City of Grants Pass is planning to expand its downtown historic district. The Mail Tribune reports that the plan calls for expanding the district from two blocks to about 15. Officials want to standardize the historic look and streamline exterior remodel approvals. However, critics say restrictions on exteriors could turn out to be expensive or decrease property value.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – The nation’s most polluted nuclear weapons production site is now its newest national park. Thousands of people are expected next year to tour the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, home of the world’s first full-sized nuclear reactor, near Richland, about 200 miles east of Seattle in south-central Washington. They won’t be allowed anywhere near the nation’s largest collection of toxic radioactive waste.
