PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Administrators at a Portland high school have canceled an upcoming winter dance because of concerns about dirty dancing. Portland Public Schools spokeswoman Christine Miles says that some of the dancing at Cleveland High School has been “over the top, sexual in nature.” Miles tells KGW-TV that some families don’t think the dance should be cancelled, but there were students worried about their safety.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say the levels of harmful domoic acid that closed South Coast crab fisheries are now falling, and crabbers could return within weeks. All eyes are on Monday’s results of Dungeness samples taken last weekend for Brookings and Port Orford. Sport crabbing in the area has been closed since Nov. 13 and the commercial season set to start Dec. 1 already has been delayed.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A man is suing the Eugene-area transit district saying he was slammed into a sidewalk and handcuffed at a downtown bus station. Joseph Sullivan’s lawsuit seeks $10,000 for medical expenses and $900,000 for pain, discomfort and emotional distress. The Register-Guard reports that Lane Transit District officials say the two people named in the lawsuit are employees of security contractor G4S and are not employed directly by the transit district.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Federal data show the Bend and Portland areas saw some of the nation’s steepest increases in home prices over the past 12 months. In the third quarter of 2015, Bend had the eighth-highest level of house-price appreciation compared with the same quarter last year. The Portland area ranked 14th. On a statewide basis, Oregon ranked fourth in the nation with a 10 percent increase in home prices.
