MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say one man is dead after he was ejected from his vehicle in a crash near Cave Junction. The Mail Tribune reports state police say Jacob Shepherd had been driving a pickup truck when he tried to pass a UPS truck that was preparing to make a left turn. Shepherd struck the front of the UPS truck as he was trying to pass, causing his car to spin and roll multiple times.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A volunteer has sued the Gospel Rescue Mission of Grants Pass, saying it failed to protect her from an enraged man who attacked her. Toni Sue Burrows says she was pepper sprayed and beaten by the man, who was trying to enter the shelter to see his wife. Mission director Ken Amelio didn’t immediately return a call for comment.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Rep. Kurt Schrader was one of nearly 50 Democrats to support legislation aimed at blocking the resettlement of Iraqi and Syrian refugees in the U.S. The Democrats were joined by all but two Republicans as the House passed the bill by a 289-137 margin.

HOUSTON (AP) – Gary Payton II scored 19 points and Oregon State rode a late first-half spurt to a 77-69 win over Rice last night. Payton was 8 of 11 from the field. Malcolm Duvivier added 14 points and Tres Tinkle 12. After jousting back and forth with Rice for most of the first half, the Beavers started the second half with an 8-0 run and built a 19-point lead – the largest of the night.
